IT’S HARDLY SURPRISING that Amanda Wheeler is influenced by waves smashing on rocks – she is based at Steephill Cove, arguably the prettiest place on the Island, situated just south of the Victorian seaside town of Ventnor. Steephill Cove is a traditional, unspoilt fishing cove with a safe, sandy beach, nestled between rocky cliffs and smugglers’ coves.
It can sometimes feel as though one is on the edge of the world and the colours, textures and movement is different every day, every night. These changes happen rapidly and you can see in these paintings that very fast transition.
Smooth and safe one minute, the elements blasting the next, Amanda’s brushwork embraces the myriad movements that nature supplies.
